Design Scenario

Spook Design is a design studio consisting of five master’s students in Product Design from Genk: Berre Brans, Thomas Claassen, Lise Pelgroms, Emiel Spreeuwers, and Robbe Verschuere. They will investigate upcoming trends and the changes that still lie ahead in the future. Similar to Ghost Design, they will design as an external agency for a company. In this case, that company is Samsonite. Our society is constantly changing. According to Herman Konings, today even the pace of change itself is changing. The pace is growing exponentially, making it faster than ever before. This will not be any different in the future. It is important for companies such as Samsonite to think about future changes, especially about what their role will be and how the market in their sector will evolve. Spook Design does not want to examine this change from a product centered perspective, but rather from a broader context. It is difficult to combine a mindset in which industry is so central with the rapid changes in society because such mindsets are based on traditions. Therefore, they chose an imaginary and narrative approach that does capture this exponential change. Together they created four future scenarios based on scientific reports, with the aim of stimulating the luggage sector with new disruptive ideas and encouraging this sector to view itself from a different perspective.
